Update: Woman Charged with 14 Distraction Thefts, Police believe there may be other victims

Please note, the Toronto Police Service has arrested and charged a woman with 14 counts of Distraction Theft. Police believe there may be other victims:
The Toronto Police Service is advising the public of an arrest in a series of Distraction Thefts in 22 Division since August 2015.

On Friday, March 4, 2016, at 2 pm, police responded to a call for a woman allegedly using distraction techniques to steal jewelry from unsuspecting people.

It is alleged that:
  • a 35-year-old woman, driving a car with a man, would stop to ask for help
  • she targeted older, infirm and disabled people
  • if people would offer assistance, she would engage them in conversation
  • during the conversation, she would offer to give them jewelry she had on her
  • when she put the jewelry on, she would remove their jewelry

On Saturday, March 5, 2016, at 7:15 pm, Mihaela Miclescu, 35, of Toronto, was arrested. She is charged with 14 counts of Theft Under $5,000.

Police believe there may be other victims.
