Rising Number of Vehicle Thefts and Break-ins

Please note, we have seen a sharp increase in the number of vehicles stolen in the past week. There were 6 vehicles reported stolen last week, mostly from residential homes or driveways. There have also been 4 residential break-and-enter incidents in the past week.

We have also received the following report from one of our neighbours in Humber Valley Village:
“Just wanted to let you know we had 2 cars in the driveway broken into overnight. From the camera it looks like 2 young men wearing masks have some sort of scanner to unlock the doors — we have now moved the keys away from near the back door and filed a police report.”

Please take extra care to make sure your vehicles are securely locked (and parked out of sight if possible). To minimize the risk of key fobs being picked up by handheld scanners or being stolen during a break-in, please do not store your keys near the entrances into your home.

Also, please make sure that all the doors and windows on your home are locked and/or secure. Especially if you are working outside or sleeping with your windows open at night during the hot summer weather.
